Tsikandelov apologized for his threats to prosecutors responsible for investigating illegal admission into the medical university.

Tsikandelov is one of six people charged as a result of a raid on the university by the Combating Organized Crime General Directorate and the National Security State Agency.  His wife Sofiya and son Dimitar are also charged.  Tsikandelov explained that his statements were not addressed to any officials or employees of the prosecutor’s office.  He also stated that neither he nor his family have anything to do with the illegal admission of foreign students.   The former rector at Sofia Medical University, Vanyo Mitev, who is also charged for being the leader of an organized crime group involved in illegal admissions of foreign students, stated that he has no idea why he is accused since he has nothing to do with such a “plot”.

Mitev also pointed out that the students in question are currently first year students and that, since he has stepped down as rector before they were admitted, there is no way for him to be responsible.
